Kidlat Shooters - August 2017 Match

Another match in the books, a solid outing winning single stack high overall. First match shooting the Springfield Range Officer chambered in 9mm and it was better than I expected.
As always, Kidlat puts up some unique and challenging stages. Probably the most interesting part for a low capacity shooter is stage breakdown for stages designed by open shooters. You know, the guys with 30 rounds in the magazine who hate to reload! I will admit my mental game was not as strong this match and it showed.
Stage 1 – 7th of 68 overall
By far my best stage of the day. Shot aggressively, moved into and out of positions well, transitioned quickly and executed the stage plan. I will continue to work on shooting in/out of position sooner.
Stage 2 – 37th of 68 overall
Executed my stage plan well, however, lost 3 seconds due to a non-fall free mag and not seating a reload along with 1-1.5 seconds transitioning to far (15 yard) targets. Movement was good, did not stop unless it was required. Cleaning up the mistakes will move me up by 20 spots.
Stage 3 – 35th of 68 overall
Transitions were too slow, spend too much time transitioning to 10 yard steel plates. Executed my plan but need to pick up the pace.
Stage 4 – 22nd of 68 overall
First stage of day. Blew the stage plan. Hard. I need to focus on the stage breakdown procedure and mental burn-in process. Picked a stage plan that was not good and required more stops and transitions. Dropped too many points and missed on steel popper.
Stage 5 – 23rd of 68 overall
Blew the stage plan. Hard. I need to focus on the stage breakdown procedure and mental burn-in process. 1 mike on the stage was 1” into hard cover while moving which I called good; not happy but okay with calling my shot and moving on. Again, need to work on shooting into position – 1st hard setup position I lost .5-.75 seconds in setup and .5-1 transitioning to far targets.
Stage 6 – 21st of 68 overall
Stage 7 – 18th of 68
Tough stage with partials and tilted targets. Shot my stage plan well. Shot slow and deliberate with a focus on shooting clean. I will work on shooting sooner into position and work on shooting longer targets more quickly and with better points.
I shot my level of skill last weekend and for that, I am very very happy. August and September training will have a focus on long targets and shooting on the move.
